Mountaineering is definitely a great outdoor activity. It is however not an activity that is for all people. It is only for those who are determined to go to the top of the mountains. It is a sport only for those who are daring to go the top of the mountain. Reaching the summit of the mountain is the highest achievement that a climber will ever have. It is worth reminding you that climbing mountains is not a matter of unlimited fun. It is a very risky sport and remains to be deadliest. Due to collapsing and other risks, many mountain climbers have lost lives as they try to climb mountains. Others have become disabled as a result of tragic accidents on the mountains. Mont blank Massif is the world’s deadliest mountain. It is the tallest in the alpine range and has a height of 15,782ft. Steep rocks and rock slides have been claiming lives of climbers every year. It is the mountain with the highest number of fatalities with an average of 100 climbers per year. 6000 people have since died as they climb this mountain. It is very popular since president Theodore Roosevelt reached its top in 1886.
The second mountain on the list is the Annapurna. It boasts a height of 26,246 ft. The tallest peak is the Nepal Annapurna that attracts climbers from all over the world. Since 1950, the mountain has been climbed successfully by 191 climbers. Sixty people have since died as they tried to reach the summit of Annapurna. For mountains with 8000 meters peak, it is considered as the most dangerous.
Another mount under focus is the K2 which is the second highest in the world. It is located in the border of Pakistan and China with a height of 28251 ft. Climbing Kilimanjaro is easy but not K2. Even when you choose the easiest route, you will face ice pillars that can collapse, steep rocks and complicated glaciers. This mount seems to be biased against female climbers. Among six climbers that tried to climb this mountain since 2003, five of the women died.
Nanga Parbat is another mountain in this category and is known as the man eater. The mount is located in Pakistan and boasts of 26,657ft. It features an enormous ridge of ice and rock. It ranks as the number nine is height in the world and has the tallest mountain face. By 1953, 31 climbers have been claimed on this mountain.
